BAHÇEŞEHİR UNIVERSITY SUMMER SCHOOL ON IMVROS ISLAND

(July 19–August 31 2015)

INTENSIVE BYZANTINE GREEK, MODERN GREEK & OTTOMAN TURKISH

The intensive Byzantine Greek, Modern Greek, and Ottoman Turkish Summer School on the island of Imvros, Turkey, offers courses focused on reading and translating Greek and Turkish texts both handwritten and printed. Students will develop skills in paleography for reading original archival documents written in different periods and styles. The school is based in Agridia (Tepeköy), one of the island’s predominantly Greek Orthodox villages.

In this intensive, one-of-a-kind summer language program, with an interdisciplinary team consisting of historians, philologists and an archaeologist, we  aim to teach the two native tongues of this cultural landscape, Byzantine Greek and Ottoman Turkish, under the same roof.
